Associate Dean, College of Technology and Innovation

The College of Technology and Innovation at Arizona State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Faculty and Scholarly Advancement.

Responsibilities

The College of Technology and Innovation seeks a dynamic and innovative individual to contribute to the senior leadership team of the college. The Associate Dean works with the University Vice President and Dean to advance the scholarly initiatives and programs of the College. Duties of the Associate Dean include, shaping and ensuring the development of a highly engaged faculty (including promotion and tenure, mentoring, research and scholarly impact, program development), fostering an environment of scholarship and enterprise, and creating and moving forward collaborative and transdisciplinary efforts in the College.

The Associate Dean serves in particular to communicate and collaborate with, and in some instances, to coordinate the efforts of, other senior administrators (e.g., department chairs and center directors) and faculty who have primary oversight for the College’s major academic and research activities. The Associate Dean administers the collaborative environment with industry partners in conjunction with or on behalf of the University Vice President and Dean. As a member of the senior leadership team the Associate Dean works closely with the Associate Dean for Student Initiatives, who oversees curricular, advisement, and student service functions at the College; the Director of Fiscal and Business Services, who directs the business functions of the College; and the College staff. The Associate Deans works closely with the faculty on the direction and evaluation of academic policy, programs and planning in order to ensure excellence in the degree programs of the College.

Qualifications – Required

  • Ph.D. or doctorate in a field within the purview of the College of Technology and Innovation
  • A record of distinguished scholarship appropriate to appointment as a senior member of the faculty of the College of Technology and Innovation
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible leadership and administrative experience in higher education settings
  • Experience with collaboration and partnership on initiatives with other units within an academic institution and with industry, government, or other external agencies
  • Proven capability in planning and executing projects; strong budget and fiscal skills; ability to assess and enhance organizational effectiveness

Qualifications – Desired

  • Excellent leadership skills; possessing a collaborative, diplomatic style and ability to build consensus for decision making among faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills; an ability to convey ideas in simple and compelling terms to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Understanding of current issues facing higher education, particularly those associated with change in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education
  • Experience with all aspects of the development of a successful, engaged faculty (including understanding of the domains of scholarship, the promotion and tenure system, garnering external support for scholarship, publication, and general program development)
  • Strong desire and ability to work as a member of a team to create outcomes that will often cut across the conventional grain of higher education
  • Enthusiasm for moving forward innovative approaches to education and scholarship.
