Haas Technical Education Center

The Haas Technical Education Center has multiple computer-numerical controlled (CNC) machining centers and supports manufacturing education and research in tooling and CNC manufacturing processes. Teaching and research in the Haas Technical Center is includes areas such as high performance machining, 4- and 5-axis machining, and coolant strategies.
The Center is home to five CNC machining centers:
- VF-2 Super Speed vertical spindle mill
- VF-2 vertical spindle mill
- VF-3 vertical spindle mill with a 5-axis trunnion
- SL-20 lathe
- Office mill (with a 30,000rpm spindle)
A Haas TL-10 Tool Room provides a machine that can be operated as either a manual lathe or a CNC lathe. Machine capabilities include 4th and 5th axis and high speed machining. In addition, control simulators (for the SL-20 lathe and machining centers) and a video tape/TV combination provide off-machine instruction capability.
The Center was created in partnership with Haas Automation, Inc., through its regional representative, the Haas Factory Outlet in Tempe, AZ. Other companies participating in the Center include Kennametal, and Star Metal Fluids. Haas Automation, Inc. has entrusted four of the CNC machines listed above. This support represents a significant industry investment in the education of mechanical and manufacturing engineering technology.
The ASU Haas Technical Educational Center also is a member of the Haas Technical Education Center Council. The HTEC Council is composed of community colleges and universities across the country that host Haas Technical Centers. The HTEC Council meets twice yearly, typically at the Haas Automation Inc. California headquarters in the fall and a member school in the spring.
