Applied Psychology Facilities

Students enrolled in Applied Psychology degree programs have access to state-of-the-art laboratories on the Polytechnic campus.

Applied Cognitive Theory, Usability and Advanced Learning (ACTUAL)
This lab investigates individual differences in cognitive abilities and the subsequent effects on learning and performance.  Applications include development of learning technologies. 

Applied Psychonomics and Ecological Simulations (APES) Lab
This lab studies how strong emotional and motivational states affect cognition and the simple interactions that give rise to complex social systems. Applications include military signal detection, cognitive fatigue in first responders, online shopping behavior, and the management of resource and commons dilemmas.

Cognitive Engineering Lab
Research in this lab investigates memory, reasoning, learning, and knowledge organization with current emphasis on abductive reasoning and contemporary models of cognition.  Applications include aviation and the design of intelligent agents.

Cognitive Engineering Research on Team Tasks Lab (CERTT)
CERTT specializes in identifying and researching problems associated with socio-technical systems.

Human-Technology Interaction Lab (HTIL)
This lab applies  cognitive science to the design of products that are easy to learn, efficient to use and satisfying to the user. Applications include product design and usability, consumer decision making.

Perception and Action Lab
Research in this lab centers on the basic aspects of human perceptual-motor control with a particular emphasis on the demanding actions involved in driving, flying and sports.
