The Applied Psychology program offers courses and experience to prepare students for positions in applied or experimental psychology. The program is hands-on and challenging, and the field is growing quickly, creating opportunities for further study and employment.

Applied psychologists generate psychological knowledge through research and apply this knowledge and research methods to help solve important practical problems.

Applied psychology is a continually growing field whose employers in academia, government and industry have an ever-increasing demand for highly trained personnel.  In areas such as the military, medicine, aviation, the automotive industry, business, sports and computing, understanding how a human operator interacts with technology, automation, and other people is critical to societal and national welfare.  This is exemplified in recent issues of national importance such as the response to Hurricane Katrina, voting system usability, and driver distraction.

The Applied Psychology program provides instruction and guidance to prepare students for careers in these fields.  This preparation includes methodological, statistical, technical skills, and knowledge of the basic and applied literature.

The program also serves other programs at ASU's Polytechnic campus such as engineering technology, aeronautical technology, information management and business administration.
